We blinked, and April came to a close! As we finish out another month, we're seeing our growing seasons transition.  You'll start seeing more tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and other warm weather crops, and start seeing less variety in root vegetables, winter greens (such as kale), and broccoli. Watermelon season is just around the corner!

Since Florida summers can be a bit like Winters up north (in terms of the availability of locally-grown produce), now's the time to start preserving and storing the season's bounty. One of the easiest ways to do that is by freezing goods. I find blueberries to be the easiest seasonal crop to store - just rinse, dry, and throw into a freezer safe container to enjoy in smoothies, pies, syrups, ice creams, sorbets and more for months.  I also like to blanche and freeze greens such as Kale and Collards for soups, stir fries, and sauces.  A little planning can go a long way when I'm longing for this season's flavors at the height of summer.

We'd like to welcome back Eugenio Rojas, whom you've likely met at the Kashaya Yogurt booth!  He's rejoining the market tonight with his massage business, Massage with Genie.  He's a graduate of East West College of Healing Arts in Portland, Oregon, and is ready to share his skills with chair massage at the market.  He'll also be able to help you pre-order that wonderful Kashaya Biotic Yogurt.  Be sure to welcome him back when you come out tonight!

Hope to see you there!

Cheers,

Gabby Lothrop
Market Director
