07.29.2019 - Rain or Shine at the Market Tonight

Okra in Baskets

Welcome back to Monday! We're gearing up for another rain or shine market this week, and we're excited to welcome back The Barefoot Farmer.  Last week, farmer Paul had to cancel last minute because of nasty weather out at the farm.  He couldn't harvest in those conditions, and we don't blame him!  He is planning to be back this week with the summer crops his farm has to offer.  We're super grateful to him and any other growers who tough it out in the Florida summer.  While this weather is great for growing tropicals (chayote squash, mangos, avocados, longevity spinach, etc), it's really tough to grow a lot of the veggies most of us are used to eating. The extreme heat, flooding rains, and aggressive bugs give growers a run for their money!  Paul is holding down the fort this season with squashes, cucumbers, peppers, okra, basil, and some select other offerings.  While we dream of the bounty coming in the cooler months, we'll be feasting on cucumber salads, and throwing just about everything else on the grill (oh-so-easy!).

We're rain or shine tonight, hope to see you there.

Cheers,

Gabby Lothrop
Market Director

Happy June!  Summer is in full effect, and we are working to make your weekly shopping a breeze.  Did you know there are more dinner options to grab while you're shopping for produce and pantry items?  We have quick, delicious options from Avenue A Eatery, Noo Cow, Peapod Pierogie, Semilla Nativa, Spice Affair, and Stardust Video & Coffee.  Make your Monday just a little easier by grabbing dinner from these awesome vendors, then stock up on goods to enjoy all week!

That includes our newest vendor, Bleu Basil, offering up handmade pasta in delicious flavors.  We think it will pair perfectly with the beautiful veggies available from Barefoot Farmer, Fleet Farming, and Second Breakfast.

Cool down  while you shop, with a frozen treat from Noo Cow, Crafted Goodness, or CocoBerry; icy Kombucha and Kombucha Floats from Orlando City Kombucha; or cocktails, beer, or wine from Stardust!

Cheers,

Gabby Lothrop
Market Director
